The Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim challenged the the New York Yankees yesterday at Angel Stadium with the Angels earning the win 5 to 2. Angels pitcher Joe Saunders (4.63 ERA) got the win, while Andy Pettitte (4.15 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Joe Saunders went 8.1 solid innings for the Angels, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 2 earned runs with no walks and 3 strikeouts. The Yankees’s starter Andy Pettitte went 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Brian Bruney (4.37), and Jonathan Albaladejo (4.73) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Saunders’s record goes to 14-7, while Pettitte is at 13-7. Brian Fuentes earned the save for the Angels, bringing his saves up to 44.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Angels scored 9 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Angels, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Robinson Cano could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base.
