Athletics fall to Angels 7-4

The Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim did battle with the the Oakland Athletics yesterday at Angel Stadium with the Angels picking up the W 7 to 4. It was one heck of a game that folks with Angels tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Angels pitcher Joe Saunders (4.62 ERA) got the win, while Edgar Gonzalez (5.51 ERA) took the loss for the Athletics. Joe Saunders went 6 innings for the Angels, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with one walk and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Angels was Darren Oliver (2.83), and Kevin Jepsen (4.82). The Athletics’s starter Edgar Gonzalez went 5 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with one walk and one strikeout. Jon Meloan (0.00), Jerry Blevins (4.82), and Brad Ziegler (3.20) also pitched for the Athletics. With the win, Saunders’s record goes to 15-7, while Gonzalez is at 0-4. Brian Fuentes earned the save for the Angels, bringing his saves up to 45.

In addition to the 7 runs, the Angels scored 10 hits and committed no errors. Kendry Morales led the Angels in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Erick Aybar’s one hit. The Athletics didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Athletics managed 4 runs, 9 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Ted Barrett, Greg Gibson, Tim McClelland and Andy Fletcher. There were 38,718 Angels ticket holders in attendance at Angel Stadium.

The win puts the Angels at a record of 91-64, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Athletics to 75-81, (16.5 games behind first place in the division).
